Will Vegas Flip Pacioretty After Habs Trade? By Jamie Gilcig 091018

Cornwall Ontario –  Oddly enough this will go down as one of Hab GM Marc Bergevin’s best trades.

It wasn’t a great trade, and barely was a good trade as the team diminished its asset as it seems bent on doing.   Will they be trashing Carey Price and his near untradeable contract next if the goalie doesn’t get off to a good start?

If Pacioretty rebounds it’s a really bad trade, essentially a salary dump of Tomas Tatar by the Knights.   Montreal is on the hook for three season at over $5M per.

Of course if you’re planning on chasing the bottom this season,  Tatar, a 40ish point centre/winger seems like a great fit.   Nick Suzuki is an intriguing asset in the deal.   He and the 2nd essentially cover the price of taking on Tatar’s contract.

It is one less distraction and issue to deal with before the season starts at least.

It certainly wasn’t the deal that was on the table from LA, and it certainly won’t be the deal if Vegas flips Patches who doesn’t have any NMC or no trade clause in his contract that expires this season.

What do you think dear Hab fans?  You can post your comments below.

February will be the tenth anniversary of this newspaper.   That’s a long time and a lot of hard work.

It’s resulted in over 1 million human pageviews monthly.      LINK

Sadly, CFN never became the creative fount of positivity I envisioned when I started this venture in February of 2009.   You can’t do creative marketing for people that aren’t creative as I discovered in a chat with Andre Pommier before Bob Peters told him to stop advertising.

I was warned. I was told that Cornwall was corrupt, uneducated, impoverished, and lacking culture.

I thought I could make a difference and I did in many ways.   A lot of nasty dragons have been defeated.   A lot of bad guys (and girls) have left town.  A few even ended up in jail.  We saved beavers even if the flow through devices were ripped out eventually in Guindon Parc by mysterious parties….

At the end it’s been an adventure and like all adventures there are good parts and bad.  There are cliffhangers, and there are times the hero gets to kiss the girl and not get herpes.

As I’ve always said if I ever left Cornwall it wouldn’t be because of bullies like Roy Perkins, David #metoo Murphy, Ed Lumley(an alleged wife beater as a bonus) Gilles Latour (now in the pokey) Bob Peters, Denis Thibault, Peter Gault, Rick Shaver, Guy Lauzon, Jim Brownell, Hugo Rodrigues, Chris Savard(run out of town after a few scandals) Traci Trottier,   Maureen Adams, Jennifer Burke, Brian Snyder, and our future mayor Bernadette Clement, Elaine MacDonald and their Pink Posse…there are so many more, many sneakily who work in the shadows.  (Tammy Hart gets bonus points even if she’s in South Stormont)

The irony is these impotent bullies are enabled by the likes of Randy Sauve, Dwight Dugas, Tracy Champagne, Kathy Coffey, Neil MacMillan, John Towndrow, and far too many to name and frankly who aren’t worthy of naming, circling around hoping for a few crumbs or billboards.

Life is short.   Talent is an awesome thing and those of us with some have to cherish that gift and use it wisely.

Cornwall Ontario isn’t the greatest place to invest.  It’s not the place to go if you seek attention either ( I always laughed at that lame accusation, I mean, honestly, who would come to Cornwall to get famous?) and sadly it’s shown that it’s not a place to raise a family or build a business.   It’s not that you can’t, but it’s like hoping to live to 100 by smoking 3 packs of ciggies per day.

Like the toons in Who’s Afraid of Roger Rabbit the town will be Big Boxed over.  It already has in a small way when you contrast the mediocrity of Brookdale with the ghostly strip that is Pitt Street.

It’s a town of cowards who enable the even more mediocre bullies that rule it so inefficiently that what could be a gold mine is routinely overlooked by so many.   It’s essentially a government services town where if you aren’t working for CAS, CCH, CCPS, CFS, EOHU, or any other government agency or school board, your income is pretty darn well below the provincial average. And that means towing the line…or else!

It also has more self hatred than any place I’ve ever lived and I’ve lived in a few.   If you want to hear this poor city rundown talk to a local, especially if they’ve moved away as I have far too often recently.

I’ve seen a lot of good people leave in the last 18 months with more moving in the next 12.

With all this there still are pebbles of goodness, even if they are meek and dimly lit.

Ten years of investment in a community is enough in my opinion.  It’s time to give someone else a chance.

There have been many in this town that have judged yours truly; like the very special person who chastised me for not graduating University and when I clicked on their facebook profile, they were studying to get their GED.

While ten years have flown by without me judging others there clearly is plenty to judge and the verdict for most wouldn’t be pretty…but that will come out in Dirty Town Under a Crooked Bridge which will be finished in February.

What the new owners will understand, what so many in Cornwall don’t, is that it’s always the audience that counts, not the writer, publisher, editor, or bottle washer.  It’s always about the viewers and it drives many of the “clique” nuts, even as they themselves read our pages, that so many read CFN inside and outside Cornwall Ontario.

Whistle-blower Forum by Diane Shay – 2018 & 2014 Election Promises Broken Part 2

$

I have been searching online for major accomplishments of this Council and came up short other than ongoing significant tax increases over the past 10 years and building the Benson Centre. Tax payers simply cannot afford to leave this Council in power.

Each and every day city employees work to meet the needs of taxpayers. I will use my career with the City and Counties to clarify.

In the late 80’s early 90’s I plan implemented The GSDL(GLEN STOR DUN LODGE)  Outreach Program which in 2012 celebrated it’s 25 year anniversary. In the late 90’s I reorganized the WSIB schedules to reduce cost by $400,000.00 annually with no impact on injured employees.

I wonder where all that money has gone over the years?

I then went on to develop the City’s evacuation and communications plans as Certified Emergency Planning Coordinator. At the same time I implemented reverse 911 (Community Alert Network), a goal Mr. Fitzpatrick said could not be accomplished but fortunately for the community he was wrong and I not only implemented it but also had it cost shared with the counties and industry for 10 years.

Oh yes, we can’t forget Social Contract those dear old “Ray days”. The City signed a Social Contract agreement with non union employees. The non union fulfilled their part of the agreement but when it came for the City to take responsibility all of a sudden they stated that is was not an enforceable contract since we were not a union.

Ridiculous I know, but we did have to form a formal non union group, hire a lawyer and even then they refused to fulfill the entire contract. That was the closest the non union group game to unionizing by calling OPSU in.

The group eventually decided to settle for less than the agreed contract but the City made it mandatory for all employees had to sign or they would not settle. I signed but attached a letter stating how disappointed I was with the Corporation for their poor treatment of a very dedicated group of employees, and I was only signing to support the group not that anything about this was fair, legal or ethical.

I used to joke saying my job was to protect the City from itself. I didn’t realize how true that was until I was retaliated against for protecting a vulnerable senior from abuse. Unfortunately Ms. Clement or Ms. MacDonald could not come to that seniors defence given their role on the GSDL Management Committee.

I don’t think employees ever believe they will have to use the legal system to protect themselves from their employer. Yet that is exactly where I found myself in disbelieve and shock after 18 years of dedicated service.

The Ministry charged the City and after spending millions of taxpayer dollars to go to court and then made a 180 degree turn and pled guilty at the 11th hour. Yet another example of poor inappropriate management of tax dollars.

I mean, they had at least four law firms involved at one point,  some just looking at conflict of interest issues with other firms. Ludicrous to say the least, but after all it didn’t cost Mr. Fitzpatrick, Ms. Derouchie or Mr. Menagh one cent not to mention they actually got rewarded with very generous severances packages at the taxpayers expense.

Lets not forget the horrendous treatment of Deputy Chief Hickley. Julie Johnston RN and Jamie Gilcig by this Corporation and who gave the taxpayers Transparency by speaking out, yes it was the Whistle-blowers not the Council who ran a campaign on that very issue.

Since it is commonly understood that you can base future actions by looking at past behaviour which speaks louder than any campaign promise. In HR I looked at every situation from a fair and consistent perspective a simple concept taught in most HR courses but a concept this corporation finds impossible to grasp.

From my experience a vote for this Council is a vote AGAINST Transparency, Integrity and Accountability as they have demonstrated time and time again.

Take Care,

Diane Shay

#CCPS Taze Mentally Ill Man Who had DROPPED Weapons in Cornwall – NO SIU Report by Jamie Gilcig 091218

Cornwall Ontario –  For several years now this newspaper has struggled with the CCPS for more transparency and more disclosure.

Unlike forces in Kingston they refuse to give out a breakdown of calls of service.  They begrudgingly now give out a total of calls for the day although there are days they don’t report any crime still.  They didn’t even report to the public when a submachine gun was stolen from the armoury in Cornwall.

This was their release which we may not have even had if not for CFN breaking the story the day before.

POSSESSION OF A WEAPON FOR A DANGEROUS PURPOSE

Cornwall, ON – Andrew Bourbonnais, 35, of Cornwall was arrested on September 9th, 2018 and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. It is alleged on September 9th, 2018 the man was acting in an aggressive manor while carrying a large sword in the area of Brookdale Avenue. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man refused to cooperate after being instructed to drop the sword and was subsequently tased. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

However the video and photos tell a very different story.

People have died from being tazed and of course there is the emotional damage, especially to someone with what appears to be clear mental illness issues, for being tazed.

While most people would agree the safety of the public and police officers is tantamount,  why write a blotter entry that clearly appears to not be accurate?   Why not contact the SIU?  CFN confirmed that the SIU were not contacted about this incident via CCPS voice Stephanie Macrae?

Again, weapons on the ground, hand on hip, and surely distressed by the amount of officers present with weapons aimed at him.   Is it any wonder why so many in Cornwall are suggesting its time for the city to ask the OPP to take over policing?   Is there not training on mental health issues for officers?   After all, this isn’t Texas.

Cory Arial shot the videos in this story and there are over 150 comments on his social media page with many asking similar questions to this story?  How could a mentally ill man be tazed with the weapons on the ground when officers are trained how to immobilize subjects without hurting them or putting anyone in harm’s way?

From Mr. Arial:

…I want him to know I wanna help him he didnt deserve it yes his original actions wasn’t safe but he dropped his weapon he didnt deserve it cops think the badge means do what you want that is why we have laws…

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll.

For Andrew Bourbonnais instead of being in hospital he’s attending a bail hearing only this morning, four days after the event.    Word is that he may be getting one of Cornwall’s most talented law firms to rep him as this evolves.

We will be updating with more information as it becomes available and if you have any video, photos or information please email us at info@cornwallfreenews.com or dial 855 444 1133.   You can be confidential if you wish.

Catholics Muzzling Media @ Bishops Confab in PROJECT TRUTH Cornwall Ontario 091918

Cornwall Ontario –  One would think that the Catholic Church, after the scandals and issues that they’ve been dealing with, especially in Cornwall Ontario,  wouldn’t try and block the light, especially at a high profile meeting of The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops that is taking place, but a report has come out that essentially shows a muzzling of the media including a two page accreditation hurdle that actually attempts to control what media would ask this September?

Not only is the Church asking for the subjects and questions covered in advance, but is stating that staff and clergy cannot be approached, even during breaks.

While meetings are closed, the prohibitions against attending media of the event which is expected to draw over 90 Bishops has essentially muzzled media which has drawn protest from the Quebec Association of Professional Journalists.

Kim Walsh, Cornwall area Chancellor has not sent CFN a release for the event nor a invite.  It’s the largest newspaper in Cornwall with over 1 million human pageviews monthly.

What do you think dear CFN viewers?  Is there any reason to justify such anti Democratic behavior and after all of the church scandals keep such secrecy?
